How to make the Dallas Slam Team
- Place in the top three (3) (First, Second, or Third) three (3) times during the regular slams from April 2011 to the end of March 2012.
-Upon placing in the top three - three times, the poet will have qualified for the grand slam competition in April to determine the team.
Note: Special slams may occur to raise or reduce the number of poets that are qualified to compete for the team.
-Place in the top five (5) (First, Second, Third, Fourth or Fifth) at the grand slam an you are a team member.
-The poet that places first in this grand slam event will also be crowned grand slam champion for that year.
Note: Poets have been known to resign from the team for various reasons. Dallas Poetry Slam reserves the right to determine the process of filling a vacant team member slot or slots and the right to send a four or five member team to Nationals.
2012
Dallas Poetry Slam will select a poet
to represent the city
at the
(iWPs) competition
Poets, To participate one must:
-Be a member of the 2012 Dallas Slam Team
OR
-Place first, second or third in a regular bi-weekly Dallas Poetry Slam between April 2, and October 1, 2012.
Note: One can still participate in the iWPS by entering as a Storm poet during open registration. For more information, log on to www.poetryslam.com.
The winner is expected to cover their own expenses such as travel, lodging and other incidentals. Dallas Poetry Slam will cover the iWPs registration fee and facilitate one fund raiser/feature to assist with expenses.
Slam Format and Rules:
There will be four rounds consisting of a one minute poem, a four minute poem, a two minute poem and a three minute poem in that order.
-After the second round low scoring poet(s) will be eliminated
-Top cumulative scores from first and second round will advance
-After the third round low scoring Poet(s) will be eliminated
-Top cumulative scores from the first, second and third round will advance
-The poet with the top cumulative score wins
The number of poets eliminated will be determined before the slam begins.
In the event of a tie for first place only, poets shall perform one additional poem for the tie breaker. After all poets perform, the judges can vote for only one poet.
Note: In the event of time restriction, the total of all five scores from the final round shall break the tie. If necessary, the third, second, and/or first round scores may be used.
